What is Age verification?
Age verification is a check that confirms a user is an adult before they can view or create adult content, usually through an ID document scan and facial matching rather than a simple tick-box.
Age verification protects minors from adult content and protects creators and platforms from legal risk. Simple 'I am over 18' buttons are increasingly being replaced by stronger checks as laws in many countries tighten.
Stronger methods include scanning a government ID and matching it to a live selfie, or facial age estimation. Good providers minimise the data they keep and share only what the platform needs. For creators, verified audiences reduce the risk of unknowingly interacting with someone under 18.
On MyShrine every fan and creator is age verified through Didit before they can take part, and creators complete a fuller identity check before payouts. This means creators know that everyone they interact with on the platform has passed an adult check.
Age verification works alongside, not instead of, content moderation and reporting. Anything involving minors is banned outright and reported to the relevant authorities. If you ever suspect a user is under 18, stop the interaction and report it.
